Jyotir Linga Shiva Temples  Over the centuries pilgrims have journeyed through to Kailash to achieve enlightenment or cleanse themselves of sin by taking a holy dip in the holy Manasarover Lake and doing the Holy Parikrama (Kora) of Mt. Kailash, braving enormous distances and particularly harsh weather and anxieties.  One Stop Site Map KBS Consultants

I have read elsewhere that Mount Kailash is the centre focal point of the earth's gravity. The trek through the "Yamadwar", Valley of Gods and Dolma la Pass -- Change the personality in some way.

For the Hindus Mount Kailash is the earthly manifestation of Mt. Meru, their spiritual centre of the universe, described as a fanatastic world pillar 84,000 miles high, around which all else revolves, its roots in the lowest hell and its summit kissing the heavens. On the top lives their most revered God, Shiva, and his consort Parvati.

Mt. Kailash, 6,740 m. is situated to the north of the Himalayan barrier, within Tibet. It appears as a rocky mountain covered with ice and with awesome beauty, with 4 great faces. It is the spiritual centre for four great religions: Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, the Jain religion and the pre-Buddhist animistic religion - Bonpo.

To Tibetans Mount Kailash is known as Khang Rimpoche (Precious Jewel of Snow) and they see it as the navel of the world.
It is said that a stream from the mountain pours into a nearby lake and from here rivers flow in the four cardinal directions. The River of the Lion Mouth to the North, the River of the Horse Mouth to the east, the River of the Peacock Mouth to the south and the River of the Elephant Mouth to the West. Strangely enough, four major rivers do indeed originate near Kailash, the Indus, the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra), the Karnali and the Sutlej.

 Tryambakeshwar Jyothirlinga
Of the twelve JyotirLingas of Lord Shankara, the tenth one is known as Tryambakeshwara. Tryambak is near Nasik in Maharashtra. This great JyotirLinga on the banks of Gautami has a unique form. The Lord in this temples Grabhagriha is not worshipped with Abhisheka with water (Jalahari) unlike others. There is just a bottom part of the pounding stone (Ukhali), instead, like a hole.

In that hole there are three Lingas shaped like the Thumbs. Hence Tryambakeshwara. Of these three Lingas, the Linga of Mahesha has a constant shower of water from an orifice above. It is a natural source of water coming down as Abhisheka for the Lord.

Grishneshwar jyotirlinga location

Blessed by VerulNagar, there is no other place like it on this earth, where Lord Grishneswara resides, the best palce on this earth. Madhwamunishwar.

On this holy pilgrimage of the JyotirLingas of Lord Shankara, the last one, with out which the pilgrimage will not be considered as complete, is the twelfth JyotirLinga, of Grishneshwar.

About 30 km towards the west side of Aurangabad, there is a village called Verul. In this village there is a place of pilgrimage called Shivalay, when the great Holy Trilinga of Ghrishneshwar is located. The stories associated with Verul, Shivalay and Ghrishneswar are like this:

This was originally a settlement of the Naga tribes. The place of the Nagas is Bambi, which is known as Varul  in Marathi Varul  gradually changed into Verul  and is known by this name only. River Yelaganga flows here. The name Verul  is derived from Yelaganga, on whose banks the village is located. There was a king by the name Yela  here. The capital of his kingdom was Yelapar, or Yelur or Verul.

  Dhwajarohan at Somnath Temple

The pilgrimage of Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Darshan ( 12 Jyotir Lingas) begins with the Somnath temple. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is spacious housing a huge shivalinga. There are idols of Tripurasundari on the right and Ambika Mataji on the left side of the Lingam. Unlike the other Jyotirlinga temples, the devotees cannot by themselves perform Pujas here. Only the Priests are allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum. For the security reasons, nothing is allowed inside the temple, not even coconuts for puja. However, there are adequate locker arrangements to keep personal valuables.

Reshmi Dhwajarohanam at Somnath Temple is the special puja for the devotee, and anyone can perform it. The temple authorities provide saffron colored Dhwaja, which has embossed symbols of Nandi and Trishul on it. The devotee performs puja of the Dhwaja near garbhagriha. After that ritual, a temple employee takes dhwaja to the top of the temple and unfurls it.
